Megami Magazine Vol. 150

megami150-01

It’s hard to believe that I have reviewed over 50 volumes of Megami Magazine, but here we are at volume 150 (November 2012). The cover page features Nanoha and Milhi, which actually works well since both of them have the same character design style. The lettering on the title is gold this time to celebrate the 150th volume. There are a few nice extras in this volume, but lets go through the pin-up posters first. Any posters exceeding a certain ecchi threshold can be viewed by clicking on the links.

The first poster features Miyabi and Konoe from Kono Naka ni Hitori Imouto ga Iru. Both of them are sporting some fashionable negligee on a bed.

The next poster has Yuri and Ena from Campione in the middle of changing. These posters usually don’t have much to them except the girls, but this one has some effort put into the rough-looking walls.

I thought this To Love-ru poster was cute with Yami and Mei enjoying some snacks in bed.

megami150-05

I can’t say I really understand the hype over Girls and Panzer. This poster really shows the contrast between cute girls and something menacing like a tank.

As much as I like Lisara’s character design from Dakara Boku wa H ga Dekinai, I wish Megami would put in some action posters of her rather than panty shots.

megami150-07

Despite the simplistic design of this poster, it’s actually quite cute. Part of the reason may be because Yuru Yuri looks relatively innocent compared to other anime.

megami150-08

This is probably the brightest poster in the volume with Rin enjoying a sunny afternoon with some cats. I’m pretty sure Kud was included in the background to appease more fans.

megami150-09

This poster isn’t as elaborate as the previous Star Plus One posters, but it still looks nice and has relatively well-done details and colouring. The only complaint I have is that the water doesn’t seem to refract.

megami150-10

While this type of poster is as plain as Megami ever gets it actually seems dynamic because of Nanoha and Milhi’s vivid costumes and that glowy thing they’re holding.

megami150-11

I really don’t have anything to say about this one.

megami150-12

This poster of Chie from Joshikousei Chie no Shachou Nikki is cute but rather plain. I think it would’ve looked nicer with her jumping down from somewhere.

megami150-13

I’m not a big fan of this particular art style, but I have to admit that it does have a certain appeal to it. This illustration was done by Chikaoka Sunao.

megami150-14

The Girl’s Avenue featured artist in this volume is Abeno Chako. She is a member of the Kappa Kurieito circle and has illustrated various manga series. Some of her works include Sola, White Album, and Dantalian no Shoka. You can find more of her works on her website: http://www.lifox.co.jp/abeno_chaco/. As for the illustration that is featured here, I think it portrays Chako’s skill with colours and shading. While the maid is partially in a shadow, her clothing still looks bright and vivid. The plant and the yellow leaves also help to focus attention on the character.

There normally aren’t many naked apron posters, but I should’ve guessed that Hagure Yuusha would get one.

I think the funny thing about this poster is that there is an identical illustration of the OniAi characters with their school uniforms on.

megami150-17

At first glance this poster looks pretty simple, but it actually has quite a bit of detail in it. I think the use of too many straight lines detracts from the overall look.

megami150-18

I’ve never seen anyone dust off a cookie before, but I guess that’s just what Busou Shinki do.

megami150-19

I haven’t been too impressed with the Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita posters that have been appearing in Megami Magazine lately, but this one makes up for it with a heartwarming scene and the fairies still playing around.

megami150-20

As much as I like the battle costumes of the girls from Nanoha, the casual clothes they’re wearing here look nice too. Normally I’d cringe at the white background but it actually works well in not distracting you from the main subjects.

megami150-21

Also included in the magazine was a collage of screenshots from Nanoha’s 2nd movie transformation.

megami150-22

Of course, you can’t have Nanoha without Fate. Both of them look cool.

megami150-23

Most of the series mentioned in this volume’s Anime Character Catch Up have already started airing, but there are still a few titles to look forward to, like Prism Nana, and the next season of Hayate no Gotoku.

megami150-24

Included in this volume was a few pages dedicated to the mobile game Star Plus One. There is also a freebie for people who play the game.

megami150-25

One of the more interesting items featured in the pages of this magazine was Dengeki’s 20th Anniversary Heroine collection. It includes 20 different figurines of female anime characters from various series.

megami150-26

The back of the magazine has a cute, but also somewhat scary Puchimas ad.

megami150-27

As part of the celebration for reaching 150 volumes, Megami Magazine included a special extra: a deck of panty cards.

megami150-28

Now you can play your favourite game of poker and enjoy some eye candy at the same time.

megami150-29

These cards are made out of a soft cardboard so you may not want to be too rough on them.

megami150-30

So how many undies can you identify?

megami150-31

Also included as an extra was this Nanoha visual collection booklet.

megami150-32 megami150-33 megami150-34

Unfortunately, this booklet was only limited to 4 images, rather dismal in my opinion.

megami150-35

On to the large poster, naturally, the first side has Nanoha again. This time she has Fate and Hayate with her posing by the pool.

On the reverse side is Becky from Dog Days in the middle of her transformation.

Megami Magazine seems to have tilted towards the cute side with this volume, which is great for people who do prefer cute illustrations. There was also a larger focus placed on Nanoha so fans would likely enjoy this volume. Given that volume 150 is a big milestone, it was nice to get a few little extras in the form of playing cards and a new Nanoha visual collection. My favourite posters this time were the Kono Naka ni Hitori Imouto ga Iru poster, the Little Busters poster, and the Nanoha poster of them in casual clothing. Overall this was a pretty good volume.
